Cycles, Norman-Rig & Vector Blur Test

Totally unrelated but I need to get it out there (to the two people who don’t know already): Magicka is freaking awesome! I got it for 2,5 € during a sale and also bought From Dust which is interesting as a demonstration (it’s got some great tech and superb visuals: dynamic tsunamis and volcano eruptions!!!), but it’s not nearly as much fun as Magicka.

not so quick head sculpt in blender
That’s a more or less quick sculpt from today to get a feel for sculpting in Blender (made from a sphere, 500k verts). It’s pretty solid a sculpting app i’d say, although it’s nowhere near the big guys like ZBrush and Mudbox or even 3DCoat for that matter. Still, for my needs it’s sufficient, but i’d really like that Sculptris-feature which creates new geometry on the fly, so i could skip using Sculptris for concepting.

I made these two guys for an animation competition, but i got quite caught up in rigging the faces (1st try at a decent face-rig) and had no chance of finishing in time, so they caught dust. Might still finish them and use them for something else. Maybe even give them some eyebrows and legs.

Reel and two sculptures

Well, this is my Demoreel the way it is at the moment. I might change a thing or two, put in something new (an actual acting piece perhaps), but no promises on that.

This is some older plasticine stuff that I made during those really great (but too few) sculpture lessons at the Games Academy:

On that last notion: I read a great article on gamasutra today about the history of art and conflict in perception between modern artists and traditional artists and how to benefit from both worlds. It’s one of the more in-depth articles on gamasutra, but I would have loved to read at least a couple of pages more on that topic. Go read it there:

Unfinished Head Sculpt

I made this one when I was still at the Games Academy in Berlin, but I didn’t have enough time to texture it.
That’s good though, because I rushed the sculpting at some point and I’ll have to correct some mistakes anyway before I can get started on the textures.

Hi, here I’ll be posting some animations, models and scribbles I’m working on in my spare time (at probably very varying intervalls), maybe share some links to interesting (game-) art related sites, perhaps I’ll even write some vaguely helpful things about game development.
